UN Foundation Workgroup Hosts
Microgrid Institute Presentation
::FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE::
Nov. 21, 2013, : Washington, D.C.: The United Nations Foundation Work Group on Mini-Grids hosted a presentation by Microgrid Institute Director Michael Burr during its teleconference on Nov. 21, 2013.
The presentation, titled "Microgrid Multi-Play: Creative solutions for energy access, resilience, and sustainability," addressed recent developments and trends in the microgrid landscape. It focused in particular on prospects for "multi-play" projects that combine a variety of services and products -- including telecom, internet, television, and facility related services, perhaps even including real estate finance, together with reliable and sustainable electricity, heating and cooling, etc.
"Energy access fuels economic growth and brings connectivity and service options," Burr said. "Electricity and telecom services can be complementary in microgrid projects. Phone, Internet, and television depend on electrification."
The U.N. Foundation Mini-Grids Work Group is organized by the UNF Energy Access Initiative, through its "Sustainable Energy for All" program. (http://www.se4all.org/). The Nov. 21 call was moderated by Terry Mohn, Mini-Grids Working Group chairman and also CEO of General Microgrids.
