Microgrid Institute Launches Integration Initiative
July 1, 2014: Today Microgrid Institute announced the formal launch of the Microgrid Institute Integration Initiative, a collaborative effort to facilitate optimal integration of microgrids into the utility grid.
“Microgrid technologies are becoming cost-effective for an ever-widening range of energy customers. But optimal microgrids can do more than just provide ultra-reliable power for their hosts,” said Michael Burr, director of Microgrid Institute. “An integrated approach to microgrid deployment will enhance the reliability of the local grid, while improving the resilience and efficiency of options available to customers.”
Charter members of the initiative include principals from:
The Microgrid Institute Integration Initiative was formed to address a range of factors affecting microgrid planning, interconnection, and integration. Key issues include:
Through a series of teleconferences and meetings, participants in the Initiative will identify critical issues, perform gap analysis, and report best practices and industry priorities for further development. - Schneider Electric
- HOMER Energy
- Modern Grid Solutions
The Microgrid Institute Integration Initiative was formed to address a range of factors affecting microgrid planning, interconnection, and integration. Key issues include:
- Roles for microgrids in a modernized grid;
- Implications of an increasingly “cellular” utility architecture;
- Evolving microgrid interconnection standards and practices;
- Federal and state agreements, guidelines, and practices;
- Technology choices and cost-benefit considerations; and
- Industry and institutional factors.
Through a series of teleconferences and meetings, participants in the Initiative will identify critical issues, perform gap analysis, and report best practices and industry priorities for further development.
