James Finlay is founding partner of Soundview Risk Advisors, focusing primarily on the valuation and appraisal review of the property equipped with solar photovoltaic and distributed energy systems. Clients are generally banks and lending institutions or appraisers needing impartial expertise regarding property values for loan underwriting decisions.
Soundview Risk Advisors offers a “Solar Appraisal” stand alone report whose value conclusion that can be integrated as a line item into an appraisal on the non-solar property valuation conclusion. Additional expertise (on a per assignment basis) covers valuation and investment risk for other types of distributed energy generation including fuel cells, co/tri-generation, utility scale solar and the financial impact of solar+storage microgrids on business operational resiliency and property value. His commercial real estate experience covers over 25 years including brokerage, project development, fee appraisal and for 15 years as a commercial appraisal manager/reviewer with Wells Fargo Bank. From 2006 to mid 2014 he was the principal appraisal/valuation representative on the bank’s Environmental Affairs team. He holds advisory positions with the Yale Clean Energy Finance Forum, the National Institute of Building Sciences, the Microgrid Institute, and serves as a subject matter expert for the Appraisal Foundation on high-performance building valuations. He has been a frequent speaker on appraisal, finance, due diligence and investment risk regarding high-performance, LEED, Energy Star designed commercial/investment property. He holds a B.A in Mechanical Engineering and Economics at the University of Kentucky, is a General Certified Appraiser, and has a CA Real Estate Sales license, Member Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors [RICS]. |
